An Apple a Day...

keeps the Doctor away. I guess it's me that needs to be eating the apple not Sydney. I hope that melon, peaches, strawberries and raspberries work; I've been consuming those by the pound-full.

Syd went to the Dr. yesterday for her 4 month well baby check. She's 25 inches tall, 14 pounds 7 ounces and is in the 75 and 70 percentile for height and weight. I was surprised that she wasn't heavier, quite frankly, she's feeling like a chunk lately. So then it was time for her shots and thank goodness she didn't cry as long or as loud as the 2 month visit. She was a trooper. I was grateful to have Dave at the appointment with me too.

So now, we just continue loving her and kissing her. Can't get enough of that baby skin.

What did the Huff's have for dinner last night?

It was a big day yesterday. Nat and Dave had their first dinner out without Sydney, thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Willms, and this handy little invention called the bottle, with a nipple that Syd likes.

Dave and I went to one of our favorite restaurants and enjoyed a leisurely dining experience out on the porch. He had Ostrich loin and I had duck. We took the scooter out and found ourselves caught up in some of the DNC craziness for a bit. It's been a long while since I was on the back of the scooter with him.

We came home to Sydney watching Hillary on TV while sitting next to Grandpa on the couch. She was waiting for us to get home. No sleep for her all afternoon. Maybe that's why she slept so long last night? Syd had lots of breast milk administered by both Grandma and Grandpa. We have found success with the bottle. Yea!
Who's up for sitting the little? Now that we know it all works, we'll give her plenty of opportunities to practice. Grandma and Grandpa even gave her a bath.

Sunday Brunch

We tried out one of our favorite dinner restaurants for brunch on Sunday. There was no wait and the food was delicious. Fun outing for us all.
Syd was especially smiley and talky. Sorry the back ground noise was a bit much. She's still growling over it though.

Milestone update

She's four months old this week, I can't believe how big she's getting. She's holding her head up like a champ which is making carrying her so much easier. She's laughing regularly now. I got her to last week, then Dave did yesterday afternoon and apparently my Dad had success last night. It's very rewarding to have her respond so much. She's grabbing so much with her hands and everything goes to the mouth to try it out. I've been letting her "smell" particularly strong foods like peanut butter and beer? (that's not a problem is it?) My Mom introduced her to a tomato, ranch veggie chip yesterday afternoon. I think I'll be ordering a highchair sooner than I thought.

Syd's been sleeping pretty well these days, and despite her cold and her head being so filled with snot that it's finding a way out through her eyes, last night she logged 10 and a half hours. Are you kidding me? No I'm not, it was quite delightful. Now I just have to get over waking up in anticipation of when she'll wake up. I was up twice, sure that she was going to be up "any minute now." It never happened and at 8 o'clock this morning I heard her first peep. That's nuts.

She goes for her 4 month Dr. visit tomorrow afternoon. I can't wait to find out how much she's grown.

Visitors

Last weekend, Uncle Scott and Aunt Dana stopped by. They logged some good time with Syd on Saturday, she was pretty cute.

Uncle Kirky came by too.

Much to catch up on

It's surprising that our faithful blog-viewers haven't staged their own protest against the lack of updates on this blog. It's shameful really.
I'll use the excuse of the auto-focus going out on the camera, or maybe the fact that Syd and I were both under the weather last week, but really, who are we kidding? We have fans that need to know what's happening over here (at least I'd like to think so.)

On the house hold front, we had some beautiful sandstone tile installed around our fireplace and on the wall under our counter top bar in the kitchen. It's quite lovely. The installer, Lincoln, was here all last week working away.

Dave and I finally received our mattress that we ordered for the new king bed. I was definitely more excited than he was, but I think he's happy with it. Last night I felt like I was staying in a hotel, yet was in my own home. Way too fun.

So, then we have some fun updates that I'll post separately here coming up. Keep reading.

Picture this

The camera's on the blink, but really, you don't need to see it. You can only smell it and feel it and taste it. Your daughter is snuggled into your shoulder and her breath has a rhythm all it's own. Quick slow, quick slow, in out, in out. She's fresh from her nightly bath and has been sufficiently lubricated with baby balm. Her skin is dewy and has no taste - it's as I've mentioned before, their breath and their taste is perfect.
I think the bed time ritual is as much for the mother as it is for the daughter. Call it the glass of pink wine (french - not a white zinfandel) that I had, but there's nothing like your baby girl falling asleep to your heart beat.

Some great pics from June

I just got my hands on some great pictures from June. Dave and I took Syd to one of my work events in the mountains. The photographer captured some images of us as a new family. I think they're pretty great. See how little Sydney was then?

Generations sharing a bed

Took Sydney over to see Grandma Klassen (Oma) on Monday. Grandma had just returned home from a short stint in the hospital and was needing a little baby therapy. During our visit it was time for Oma and Sydney to have a nap. So, they did it together. So, cute. Don't tell Grandma that she's in the picture, I had to tell a little lie, "Oh, no Grandma, I'm just taking a picture of Sydney."

Syd's Great Uncle Gerry was in town to spend some time with his Mother, so Syd met him too.

Stroller Derby

Hot Mamas Exercise class in the park this morning got a little crowded with 10 women trying to push their strollers while doing side lunges. Syd tried out her new stroller seat, she's getting so big I thought she'd be more comfortable. We've been using the car seat in the stroller base up until this week.

Can we get a nap happening here?

You've read this before - Sydney Grace is so much fun!
Here is yet another example:
Tried to put her down for a nap today and she followed me with her eyes and then her body as I walked out of her room. I just had to grab the camera. That was an hour ago, she's still not sleeping - whoopsie.

Rubber Duckie you're the One

Bath-time was so much fun last night, no Rubber Duckie, but I thought the song was fun.
Just be patient, we eventually turn the lights on in the bathroom and you can actually see her.

Seeing the sights in Boulder

Dave continues Sydney's education on the important things.

Morning smiles in the new crib

She was smiling before we took the picture. Sydney's just really camera shy. She gets stuck on looking at the lens and then doesn't mind her parents, who are making fools of themselves trying to capture her sweet looks of adoration.

word on the crib

She slept 10 hours in it last night with just a short pit stop half-way through the night. This is fantastic.

Big Girl Bed

Wednesday was a big day at the Huff House. We all got Big Kid beds. I put Sydney's together in a few hours and she slept part of the early morning in it on Thursday. She's getting used to it and we're happy to have our room back to ourselves. Here she is modeling the Modena Crib.
