Did you happen to see how cute?

Here's the skinny

Syd's 6 months today. I can't believe it. I hadn't really thought of it actually until the Chiropractor's office mentioned it today. She's a big girl.
Grandma and Grandpa Willms gifted Sydney with a sippy cup. It's been a hit, she's sampled all sorts of beverages from that vessel so far.
Sydney's sitting up - almost. She's rolling over and today she happened to giggle all day. You don't necessarily need to be talking to her or anything, she's just giggly.
She found her voice last Friday the 17th, and since then we've heard all sorts of squeals and sounds. Just some pleasant babbling.
On the not so sweet side, I think she might be having night terrors. She's been waking up 30 mins after going to sleep and just seeming inconsolable. We're working on it and have been trying some Chiropractic Care to work it out. Need to straighten out the girl.
You'll all be happy to know that the poops are regular and some what consistent (phew). Not like it's pleasant or anything, but we're not worrying too much about the back end anymore.

Sydney's going to her 6 month Dr. visit on Halloween. She'll be Yoda, so I'm sure she'll have The Force with her so I won't worry about those pesky shots.

Current happenings

This all went down tonight.
Grandpa was beta testing Syd's Yoda costume. I think it will work just fine.

So happy to meet Uncle Dan. At Thanksgiving Sydney will meet Aunt Brigitte and cousin Riley. Family's a good thing.

continued

In the previous post you see that Sydney had her bath and was looking all cozy in her towel, well, she went to bed, and then heard that the party was still going on and decided to join it.

Grammie brings the camera

She caught Syd looking really cute. Thank goodness she's always prepared with this great camera. Grandpa looks like he's liking Syd.

More cute ones just 'cause

Some people wonder if she's teething yet - this picture shows at least the top half, she's still gumming it.

So, then Grandma and Grandpa Huff (Sydney's G & G) stopped by another night last week and Grammie, ever so prepared had the camera at the ready to capture some darling shots.

Playing catch-up

There's been so much to catch up on and when you need to hold hostage your mother-in-law's memory card out of her camera in order to steal her pictures, you know it's bad.
So, let's get caught up.
Since we last wrote, Syd's been adorable. I know it's shocking. We love her more each day and I think Dave might be considering part time employment, just to hang out with his daughter during the day. Either that or a web cam in every room of the house, just so he can see how she's doing.

Truly, we're having a ball. Syd's growing so fast. To those of you who are parents this is just blah, blah, blah, "growing so fast," blah, blah, "can't believe how fun," blah, blah, "can't imagine our life without her," blah, blah, blah. But it's true. All of that and more. She's just so much fun, blah, blah blah.

We had some VIP's come by the house for dinner at the beginning of the month. Dave's Grandpa and Grandma Huff came to the house for dinner with some other relatives visiting from California, Carole and Jeff. Here's some cute pics from that night.

Do or do not, there is no try

In just a few days...Sydney will be 6 months old. That's crazy. It will also be Halloween.
Syd happens to have her 6 month Dr. appt on Halloween and back at her 4 month check up I was already scheming up costumes for her. I mean, if she's going to be out and about on the actual Hallow's Eve, I might as well put some effort into dressing up the cute little button.

Last month my Mom and I were out shopping and we found this adorable dragon costume. I bought it with the notion that I could return it if I changed my mind or more likely, found something better. This was a really cute costume though. It's been hanging on the outside of Syd's closet for a couple of weeks now. I hadn't tried it on. Don't know why not, I just hadn't. Well this week, I did try it on her; Sydney's as cute as I thought she'd be in it, but I am changing my mind and found something better.

It's important to interject here that Dave was having a very hard time with the idea of dressing up the child for a holiday that we don't really give a hoot about. He kept remarking at how unfair it is to dress up the baby when she has no input or even knows what's going on. My rebuttal to this was, "I dress her everyday in clothes that I deem appropriate, how is this any different?" His response - "My point exactly! She should wear her sleep sack every day."

So, we've compromised and honestly, credit to Dave, it's a great idea. Sydney will be dressed as Yoda. Dave will be Luke Skywalker and I, Princess Leia. The only trouble I'm having is - weren't Luke and Leia siblings? Let's just say we're Luke and Leia before they knew they were related, because that would be just plain weird, and Syd (Yoda) wouldn't be near as cute.

Here's the cute Dragon that we're foregoing in favor of the wise little guy.

Two weeks

since my last confession (I just had to type it)
That's ridiculous, I mean really.
It's an old song that you might be familiar with, "our camera's broken" aka "our camera's on the blink." It's sad too because Sydney's making so many fun sounds that I should be capturing on video. I'll make a commitment to do something about it this week.

So, the latest excuse is that the auto-focus isn't working. As a result the pictures I'll post today are blurry, very frustrating, just pretend that you haven't put your contacts in this morning, or if you did you had lots of lotion on your fingers, or, you can't find your readers. Try that and then I won't feel like such a dope.

Let's see, update - it's been all about the poops. I've come to understand that my state of being is closely related to the quantity and volume that my daughter pushes out. It's gross honestly, but can you imagine not visiting the library every day? No can do. Her sleep is interrupted, which means mine is and well, perhaps that's the answer to my mood changes. It's just a matter of getting her insides used to this grown up food. So far we've done rice cereal, pears, prunes, bananas, carrots and tomatoes, prunes and oatmeal, pears and raspberries, peas, apples, and now we're on to oatmeal cereal with a probiotic (hoping that will help get the good bugs in her). I'm not joking when I say I've considered having her on breastmilk until she goes to school. It's crossed my mind to just give up the ghost on this solid food thing. Those breastmilk diapers are so gentle on the senses and these others are incredibly offensive. But, I know better, there's no looking back, solid food all the way.

Speaking of looking back, she hasn't rolled over yet, but she's really close. Sydney's doing such a good job of sitting up on her own too. We practice every day. It's incredible to me how much more alert she is in one week. She's trying everything out. So sweet. She's very happy and easy to entertain. She adores her Daddy, almost enough to give me a complex but then I nurse her and it's all okay. Syd's all about touching our faces and grabbing chins and noses and trying to grab teeth. The other night I had so much fun with her as she was nursing and I realized that no one else is going to know this part of her, it's just me and her. She's smiling at me and cooing, experimenting with her voice and I get to witness it all. I'm so lucky. I really like this job that I have, can't imagine that I'll ever consider resigning.

Okay, enough, here are the amateur photos I have to post....

Going to the Zoo

This weekend we had a great time with the Trapps and the Retts. We tried to squeeze in some fun kid and adult activities without making ourselves crazy. I think we accomplished just that.

Here's a group picture of the six adults and then some shots of us at the zoo. It was a glorious day for late September.
