If the baby wakes at night and the mother doesn't turn on the monitor, is the baby really making a sound?
Lately we've been going thru a tough stage at night. Syd's been up 3, 4 and 5 times, it's been really hard on me. We've been living like this for the last week and a half. I've attributed it to the solid foods that I've given her and the fact that she went 6 days without a poop and then 3 days (getting better) and the fact that we were all sleeping in the same room for 5 of those nights. Lots of variables. I was hopeful that once she pooped and got back in her own bed, out of our room and on a schedule that we'd be in good shape.
Some how, either God knew I was desparate for sleep, or it was my own self/un-conscious, I forgot to turn the monitor back on after one of the wake-ups last night.
I'm lying in bed at 6:30 this morning trying to count up how many times I was up last night and realizing it was only 2, could Syd have slept thru? No, silly, she just cried herself silly and did a total 180 in her crib.
I checked on her, she was fine, but wow, talk about feeling bad. Guess it didn't kill her.

Social calendar was full this weekend
We met up with the Murphy's and the Bremner's on Friday for a little picnic lunch in the park. It was gorgeous outside and Sydney took in the playground equipment, it's never to early to know what you want....
Claire was so sweet with Syd, she's going to be a great babysitter some day.
On Saturday afternoon, Vinitia met us for margaritas and guacamole. Sydney was practicing sitting up and then needed a little liquid refreshment.
We lasted for almost an hour and a half, and then the little girl needed to go home. It was only 6:30, but this visiting thing is hard work.
Sydney saw Uncle Herb and Aunt Cara, (Oh, yeah, Harji, can you send us those cute pics you took?) Uncle Scott and Dana, and the Miller's too. Oh, and on Saturday she hung out with Grandma and Oma. See, it really was a full calendar.

No excuses
It's just been a long time.
Let's see, Syd's growing. That's about it.
No, there's much more to it all. I adore her, she's so cute, I'm sure my Mom is going to start hanging up on me when I start in with how cute she is. Today Mom mentioned that "I know it's hard to believe, but we loved you guys as much as you're loving Sydney."
She's right, it's hard to believe, but it certainly puts my relationship with my Mom into perspective. She loves me a whole lot!
So, Sydney's trying out all sorts of interesting sleep schedules these days. She's retiring around 7:30 and sleeping 12 hours! It would be fantastic, except for the fact that she has at least 2 and sometimes 3 intermissions where she just has to tell me how much she misses me. It's been a bit much lately, where are the sleeps when she does 10 or even 8 hours straight? I hope that they're coming back.
We've been trying out the solid foods lately too. Carrots were a hit, Bananas not so much, Peas were good and now it seems the rice cereal is really good for making fun sounds with her mouth. I'll have to capture it on film, it's too funny. I'm convinced she's asking for more cereal when she's got her mouth gaping open, so of course I oblige and fill it up. Turns out, she's just loading up so she can make lots of gurgly sounds with through the cereal. I'm happy I approached this whole food thing as entertainment and am not taking it too seriously. I'd be a stress case.
Let's see, she's rolling over, she's giggling a lot and is a fan of crunches. Those abs are getting a work out.
We've got all sorts of company this week so I'm sure we'll have many pictures to post and update with. Dave's friends, Brian and Aaron and their families are coming to town. We're set for all sorts of fun.

You just have to try it
No pictures for this just yet as I've got my hands full with this one. Syd has officially begun her journey into the world of solid foods. So far it's just rice cereal, and gnawing on peaches and bananas, but the girl has turned the corner. It's been two days of the cereal gig, and she's doing it. Not big gulps, but messy slurps. I know, I shouldn't be giving her the sweet fruits right off the bat, but she's just gumming them, and she's just so cute. Num, num, num, num, num...
